The NCSBN (National Council of State Boards of Nursing) is in the process of enhancing the Nurse Licensure Compact.
New Legislation
The new legislation was approved in May 2015 and will enable nurses to provide care to patients in other compact states without having to obtain additional licenses. The original multistate license (NLC) will be replaced with the new Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC). Current holders for the NLC will be grandfathered into the new eNLC.
Everything you need to know about the new licensure and the progress of conversion to eNLC can be found HERE.
The 11 uniform licensure requirements can be found HERE.
Why is the NLC valuable for Interim Nurse Leaders?
- Multistate licensure enables nurses to practice in any participating state
- Significantly speeds up the onboarding process
- Presents opportunities for Nurse Leaders to easily accept interesting new assignments
When will this happen?
As soon as 26 states pass the eNLC legislation OR the eNLC will come into effect on December 31, 2018. All current multistate licenses will remain in effect while individual states make their decision to adopt the new eNLC.
