National Nurses Day is celebrated annually on May 6. National Nurses Week was first observed in October 1954. This marked the 100th anniversary of Florence Nightengale’s mission to Crimea. The English nurse became known as the founder of professional nursing. Her pioneering work during the Crimean War (1853-1856) reduced the death count at a British base hospital by two-thirds. Her writings initiated world-wide health care reform and her habit of making rounds at night led to her being remembered as the ‘Lady with the Lamp.’
NHS Solutions is pleased to promote National Nurses Day. The purpose of National Nurses Day is to raise awareness of the important role nurses play in society. It marks the beginning of National Nurses Week, which ends on May 12, the birthday of Florence Nightingale.
